Dell retains storage market lead ahead of HPE

Total storage capacity shipments rose 79.1 percent to 98.8 exabytes during the first quarter of 2018, according to a IDC report.

(ODMs) original design manufacturers’ storage revenue increased 80.4 percent to $3.1 billion, representing 23.9 percent of total enterprise storage investments.

Sales of server-based storage increased 34.2 percent to $3.6 billion in revenue, representing 28 percent of total enterprise storage investments.

The external storage systems market revenue rose 19.3 percent to $6.3 billion.

Dell has 21.6 percent share of total enterprise storage systems revenue — growing 43 percent.

HPE/New H3C Group has 17.7 percent share of storage revenue, achieving 18.3 percent growth.

NetApp has 6.8 percent share in storage market, growing 21.7 percent.

Hitachi has 3.6 percent of the storage market. IBM has 3 percent of the global storage market.

Dell is the largest external enterprise storage systems supplier during the quarter, accounting for 32.9 percent of revenues.

NetApp finished number 2 with 14.2 percent share of external enterprise storage market.

HPE/New H3C Group was the third largest with 10.4 percent share of external enterprise storage market.

Hitachi has 7.3 percent share in external enterprise storage market. IBM has 5.8 percent market share in external enterprise storage market.

The total All Flash Array (AFA) market generated $2.1 billion in revenue during the quarter, up 54.7 percent. The Hybrid Flash Array (HFA) market was worth $2.5 billion in revenue, up 23.8 percent.
