Infotech Lead Asia: Roshni Nadar will be appointed as the chairman of HCL Corporation, the holding company for the HCL group.
She will be one of the few woman chairpersons in India.
Roshni will be taking over from her father and HCL founder Shiv Nadar at a time when HCL is looking for additional growth.
Recently, InfotechLead.com reported that HCL Technologies has appointed Anant Gupta as new CEO and president. The current CEO Vineet Nayar will continue his role as vice chairman of the company.
“She is the only daughter of Shiv Nadar. Obviously she will succeed him, though nothing has been finalized on Shiv’s date or retirement,” said Saurav Adhikari, president and global head for corporate strategy at HCL said.
Recently, according to report in Times of India, Azim Premji, founder of Wipro, has said his son Rishad will never be the chief executive of Wipro, but will represent promoter ownership on the company’s board. Rishad, 35, joined Wipro in 2007 as business head for special projects in the banking and financial services vertical and rose to become chief strategy officer three years later.
Meanwhile, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy’s son Rohan Murthy is a Microsoft fellow, pursuing PhD in Computer Science from Harvard University. He is an engineering graduate from Cornell University and has completed schooling from Bishop Cotton Boys’ School in Bangalore.
Rohan, who has around 1.39 percent stake in Infosys, is unlikely to become the chairperson of the IT major.
At present, Roshni Nadar is the executive director and CEO of HCL Corporation. She is the only child of Shiv Nadar.
HCL group had clear policies of retirement for management staff and board members at the listed entities. However, there is no rule for retirement in the holding company — HCL Corporation — in which Roshni is already the CEO and executive director.
HCL Corporation is wholly owned by Shiv Nadar, his wife Kiran and their daughter Roshni. It is the holding company of HCL Technologies, India’s fourth largest IT company, and HCL Infosystems, a provider of IT hardware and systems integration services.
Roshni was appointed CEO of the holding company in 2009. She handles the treasury operations, including investment decisions. Shiv Nadar, as chairman, focuses on developing the vision for the group, and is particularly focused on his philanthropic work for which he has committed 10 percent of his wealth.
