eBay census 2012 says online shopping registers 30% growth in India

Infotech Lead India: eBay census 2012 says online shopping increased 30 percent in India compared to eBay census 2011. Consumers from over 3,281 Bharat Hubs & 1,015 Rural Hubs shopped online.

The latest census by eBay India revealed that Delhi was the largest eCommerce Hub in the country.

eBay India tracked over 4,306 eCommerce Hubs from all 28 states and 7 union territories.

Muralikrishnan B, country manager, eBay India, said Delhi emerged as India’s topmost eCommerce hub, followed by Mumbai, Jaipur, Bengaluru & Chennai. Most transactions were from Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu & Karnataka – in that order.

Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh & West Bengal were the most wired States with the maximum eCommerce Hubs.

India’s Top 5 Rural Hubs are Guntur (AP), Choryasi (GJ), Kartikapall (KL), Villupuram (TN) &Dindori (MH) and top trading partners are United States, United Kingdom, Australia, China & Canada.

Zonewise, the West Zone of India dominates eCommerce at 38 percent, followed by the North Zone with 30 percent, South Zone with 26 percent & East Zone at 6 percent.

Electronics continued to form a major chunk of goods purchased online, with a share of 48 percent of domestic transactions. Lifestyle categories gained traction (41 percent) with an increased number of women consumers.

Indian shoppers from 2,638 Indian cities warmed up to import buying from eBay entrepreneurs in 141 countries. Retail Exports continue to thrive as consumers from 201 countries bought Indian handcrafted Products from Indian entrepreneurs from 523 Export Hubs across India.

Samsung, Apple, Sony, Nokia & Sandisk are the most sought after brands on eBay India.

The eBay Census 2012 also revealed that technology products formed a major part (47 percent) of Domestic purchases of Delhites, while Lifestyle categories dominated Imports at 49 percent. The trends bared the sweet tooth of Delhi shoppers as they were major buyers of chocolates on eBay.

Delhi entrepreneurs were found to export the most of silk fabric. Delhiites showed an inclination towards imported smartphones. Buyers from the city seemed to propagate road safety by selling the most rider protective gear.

Body care, mobile screen protectors, 8 GB Pen drives, men’s wallets & men’s fragrances were the most bought items while Smart Phones, fashion necklaces, handbags, video game consoles and men’s coats were the most imported items.

Mobile headsets, men’s wrist watches, tool kits and car waxes were the most sold items. Natural diamonds, auto mouldings & trim, aromatherapy, silk fabrics and sarees were the top exports.

Delhi intracity trends revealed that Central Delhi buys most memory card readers, South Delhi buys most men’s wrist watches, North Delhi buys most tablets, West Delhi buys most 4 GB Pen Drives, Noida buys most health care products and Gurgaon buys most Laptop Accessories.

On an average day on eBay India, 12 items are purchased every minute.
