Seagate expands 8TB Hard Drives

Seagate Technology on Tuesday introduced a new range of 8TB high capacity drives –  the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD, Seagate Enterprise NAS HDD and Seagate Kinetic HDD.

The company said the new drives are designed to match the unique storage requirements for each market segment.

Seagate’s 8TB Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD drive is intended to find high capacity and reliable data storage solutions within the traditional enterprise markets.

Don Clegg, vice president of marketing and business development at Supermicro, said: “With Seagate’s new portfolio of 8TB 3.5” Enterprise and Kinetic HDD we can cost-effectively address expanding web scale storage requirements with the most advanced Green Computing platforms on the market.”

At the same time, Seagate’s 8TB Enterprise NAS HDD is to meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. The 8TB Kinetic HDD is meant for organizations making the transition to the cloud with an eye to leveraging open source innovation. It focuses on total cost of ownership by emphasizing scaled-out storage and rapid deployment in data centers.

The company is currently sampling all drives to select customers with wide scale availability planned for late this year.

Also on Tuesday, Seagate unveiled a high density mobile hard drive technology that can offer as much as 2TB of capacity in a 7mm package. The latest product will give original equipment manufacturers (OMEs) freedom to design thin and stylish, light-weight, fast, power-efficient and cost-effective.
