NETGEAR expands storage appliance family with ReadyNAS 3138

NETGEAR launched network attached storage appliance ReadyNAS 3138 on Monday, expanding its business-class ReadyNAS Rackmount Series.

ReadyNAS 3138 Series is a 1U rack mount form factor, 4-bay NAS appliance with capacity up to 32TB. It has a quad-core Intel processor for 2.4GHz of processing power, and offers 4GB of DRAM, twice as much as the previous model.

It features four Gigabit Ethernet ports, three USB ports and two eSATA ports for additional data storage and transfer. Moreover, it runs the latest version of the NETGEAR ReadyNAS operating system.

ReadyNAS OS enables five levels of data protection – RAID protection against hard drive failure, real time anti-virus, versioning with hourly snapshots against human error, bitrot protection against silent data corruption and the easiest-to-set-up replication for cloud-managed disaster recovery available in a NAS today.

Regarding the availability, NETGEAR said, ReadyNAS 3138 is available diskless (RN3138) or populated with four 2TB, 3TB, or 4TB drives (RN31842E, RN31843E, RN31844E). The diskless edition of RN3138 is available now worldwide through authorized NETGEAR partners and other reseller channels at an MSRP of $1,699 in the U.S.

In October, NETGEAR  introduced a WiFi router for domestic use, adding to the company’s Nighthawk product line of WiFi routers.

Named as Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router (R8500), the router provides combined WiFi speeds up to 5.3Gbps. NETGEAR claimed that the router provides moreInternet bandwidth for all the devices in a home.
