Worldwide videoconferencing and telepresence equipment market declined 8.6% in 4Q12

Infotech Lead America:According to the results from IDC Worldwide Enterprise Videoconferencing and Telepresence Qview, the fourth quarter 2012 (4Q12) videoconferencing equipment revenue declined 8.6 percent year over year, but increased 14.9 percent quarter over quarter.Total worldwide enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence equipment revenue was $739.8 million in 4Q12, with revenue for the full year 2012 reaching $2.64 billion. The $2.64 billion total in 2012 was down 2.6 percent from full-year 2011 total revenue ($2.71 billion).

Multi-codec immersive telepresence continued its decline with a 32.8 percent year-over-year drop for the full 2012. The video network infrastructure segment was also down about 4.5 percent in 2012 on an annual basis.

Room-based videoconferencing and personal videoconferencing segments  experienced mid-single digit growth of 4.1 percent and 5 percent respectively in 2012 on an annual basis.

Regionally, Asia/Pacific grew 10.4 percent year over year in 4Q12. Latin America was close behind with an 8.8 percent year-over-year growth rate in 4Q12. Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) decreased 5.9 percent and North America decreased 22.9 percent year over year in 4Q12.

Cisco‘s 4Q12 results showed a 19.8 percent decline in revenue versus the record high 4Q11, but had a 19 percent quarter-over-quarter increase. Cisco remains the leads the market with 44.8 percent of the market in 4Q12, up slightly from the 43.3 percent share in 3Q12.

Polycom‘s 4Q12 revenue increased 5.7 percent quarter over quarter. It was down 18.5 percent year over year. Polycom’s market share stands at 23 percent, down from 25 percent in 3Q12. The vendor had introduced a range of new video products and services to the market in 2012.

Huawei‘s 4Q12 revenue increased 34.8 percent quarter over quarter, and an impressive 119.7 percent year over year, reaping the benefits of strong video growth in the Asia/Pacific and Latin America regions.
