Madrid Health Authority chooses Accenture as consultant for healthcare systems

Infotech Lead Europe: The Madrid Health Authority (Consejería de Sanidad de la Comunidad de Madrid) has chosen Accenture to deliver consulting services relevant to the existing healthcare IT systems for Madrid’s public healthcare network, under a two-year contract.Accenture will work with the Madrid Health Authority to enhance the integration and functionality of Madrid’s healthcare technology systems that serves the city’s 6.5 million citizens across 36 hospitals, 29 specialized treatment centers and more than 400 primary care facilities. Accenture will support the technical and functional decisions of the technology systems.

“This project builds on the existing work we have done with Accenture to develop our IT infrastructure, and supports our goal of using the most innovative and efficient technologies to provide our citizens with effective, accessible and affordable healthcare,” said Zaida Sampedro Préstamo of Madrid Health Authority.

Accenture has teamed with the Madrid Health Authority in the past as well. In 2002, Accenture began working with the Healthcare Information Systems Project Management Office to implement healthcare IT in Madrid. Earlier this year, Accenture and the Madrid HealthAuthority announced the implementation of a healthcare information exchange that will host 15 million medical records.

“This contract reinforces our commitment to the Madrid Healthcare Authority and underscores Accenture’s deep knowledge of the public health industry,” said Baltasar Lobato who leads Accenture’s Healthcare business in Spain. “Accenture will apply its broad industry skills and insights from our global network to support the Authority’s mission to offer strong citizen-oriented services to increase regional competitiveness.”

Accenture helps Shanghai East Hospital to implement resource planning system

In a similar announcement recently Accenture said it has helped Shanghai East Hospital with the implementation of a Hospital Resource Planning (HRP) system designed to optimize the hospital’s business processes and enhance its operating efficiency.

Accenture was recently awarded the 2013 Medical Economics Award for the “Best Contribution to Health Consultancy.” recognizing Accenture’s recent work in chronic disease management in Basque, Spain.
