VMware upgrades its hyper-converged software

VMware said it advanced its hyper-converged software with the new release of VMware Virtual SAN.

VMware’s hyper-converged software consists of VMware vSphere, Virtual SAN and vCenter Server transforms x86 servers.

In the latest release, the company introduced new advanced data efficiency capabilities for all-flash storage, in addition to new quality of service and performance and capacity monitoring capabilities.

“VMware’s hyper-converged software is gaining customer traction due to its simple, cost-effective and high-performance architecture that enables customers to rapidly and predictably deliver infrastructure to meet business needs,” said Yanbing Li, senior vice president and general manager, Storage and Availability Business Unit, VMware.

“We anticipate that today’s launch of VMware Virtual SAN 6.2, which delivers up to 10x greater storage efficiency, will further accelerate customer interest in hyper-converged infrastructure powered by VMware software to build out their software-defined data centers,” Li added.

VMware Virtual SAN 6.2 is expected to become available in Q1 2016. VMware Virtual SAN list price starts at $2,495 per CPU. VMware Virtual SAN for Desktop list price starts at $50 per user.

VMware also announced advancements to its cloud management platform with the introduction of VMware vRealize Suite 7.

The advancements feature new releases of VMware vRealize Operations and VMware vRealize Log Insight along with VMware vRealize Automation 7 and VMware vRealize Business for Cloud 7.

“VMware vRealize Suite is the ideal solution to help us deploy and manage our hybrid cloud environment,” said Coby Holloway, vice president and service line director for cloud computing technology and business transformation, SAIC.

“VMware’s cloud management platform has enabled us to monitor and automate our systems as well as helped us to manage costs along the way.”

VMware vRealize Operations 6.2 is now available. VMware vRealize Suite 7 and VMware vRealize Log Insight 3.3 are expected to become available in Q1 2016.

VMware vRealize Suite 7 will be made available in three editions: Standard ($3,745 per Portable Licensing Unit or PLU), Advanced ($6,245 per PLU) and Enterprise ($7,745 per PLU).
