Turner Latin America selects Kaltura and IBM

Turner Broadcasting System Latin America has selected video technology platform provider Kaltura and IBM to power a new authenticated on demand service that will be offered through Turner’s Multimedia Service Operator (MSO) partners in Latin America and Brazil.

The new service was launched on 22nd February with the streaming of the Academy Awards ceremony in Latin America.

IBM and Kaltura made the official announcement on February 23 at IBM’s Interconnect Conference in Las Vegas.

The services uses Kaltura’s OTT TV platform, and is hosted on IBM’s SoftLayer cloud infrastructure. The service includes both live TV channels and voice on demand (VOD) television episodes in Spanish and Portuguese for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

Earlier this month, Kabel Deutschland, Germany’s cable network operator selected Kaltura OTT TV to power its new TV app, a cable based multi-screen TV service. Kaltura’s solution will enable Kabel Deutschland to offer their customers the innovative TV experience.

“Kaltura and IBM are providing us with a highly advanced platform, which assures we deliver the premium standard of service our customers expect,” said Whit Richardson, executive vice president of distribution and marketing, Turner Latin America.

With 40 data centers in major markets around the world, IBM cloud provides the performance, scale, control, security, that enterprises seek to run key operations and engage their customers in the cloud.

IBM has been investing in hybrid cloud at a time when its overall business was shaking. IBMs revenue from continuing operations fell 6 percent last year from 2013, but cloud based revenue rose 60 percent year over year to $7 billion.
