IT outsourcing major Wipro infrastructure head Anand Sankaran has stepped down.
Sankaran worked with Wipro for over 24 years.
Wipro infrastructure division, which looks after the business in India and the Middle East, was recently integrated more closely with Wipro’s global IT business. In the new structure, Infotech’s vertical heads reported to Sankaran and also to the respective vertical head in the global IT business.
Soumitro Ghosh, senior VP and global head of BFSI, is replacing Sankaran as the head of Wipro Infotech.
Sankaran’s resignation is amid a major organizational revamp, Times of India reported.
Wipro Infotech looks after the business in India and the Middle East. Ghosh, who has been heading the BFSI business unit since 2008, has grown it to a $1.6 billion business.
There are also several other changes in the top order.
The report says Shaji Farooq, head of advanced technologies, global alliances and go-to-market transformation, is taking over as the head of BFSI.
Last September, Farooq was appointed the senior VP for the newly created advanced technologies service line that includes social media, mobility, analytics-as-a-service and cloud. Prior to joining Wipro, Shaji Farooq was heading Infosys’ consulting & systems integration business across the financial services industry vertical.
G K Prasanna, responsible for Wipro’s product engineering solutions, has been given the additional responsibility of the infrastructure business.
Jeff Heenan-Jalil, global head of telecom equipment and media verticals, will head advanced technologies that was previously under Farooq.
Wipro’s chief marketing officer Punnet Chandra will report to Heenan-Jalil. Heenan-Jalil joined Wipro in 2007, heading the manufacturing, pharmaceutical & healthcare division for Europe. In 2010, he became the vice president and head of Europe for Wipro.
